CUSTOMERS at an East Lancashire bank got more than they bargained for when a mouse buried into money at a busy cash point.
The rodent got into the auto-telling machine (ATM) at Barclays Bank, Bank Street, Rawtenstall.
But people complained when the mouse was crushed in the mechanism as it got into bundles of money and was spewed out alongside cash, receipts and statements.
The machine has now been closed.
A spokeswoman at the bank confirmed the creature's fate and said the bank had been notified by horrified customers who received parts of the animal when they used the machine.
The spokeswoman went on: "A mouse did get inside the ATM and unfortunately it died, causing a bit of a mess in the machine.
"For health and safety reasons we have had to close the machine down and it will not reopen until Tuesday.
"We would like to apologise to all our customers for any inconvenience. We are sorting the problem out."
