CONCERNS about smells, noise, traffic and parking problems affecting a residential area have stopped a former hairdresser's shop being turned into a takeaway.
Wigan Council planners refused a scheme for a semi-detached shop -- last used as a hairdressers -- to be transformed into a takeaway on Westleigh Lane, near the Abbey Lane junction.
Planning officials thought such development inappropriate for a residential area.
A report by planning officers to the development control committee stated: "I am concerned that the use as a hot food takeaway will increase traffic in the area, lead to on-street parking problems on the main road to the detriment of highway safety.
"The cooking odours and noise and other nuisance associated with this type of development will be detrimental to residential amenity."
