LEIGH Centurions want their genuine fans to 'name and shame' the yobs who showered Wigan players with plastic beer bottles during last Sunday's Challenge Cup quater-final tie at Hilton Park.

Centurions chairman Mike Nolan says any culprits will face prosecution as well as being banned from the ground.

Referee Stuart Cummings threatened to abandon the game when plastic beer bottles rained onto the pitch from the Glebe Street end of Hilton Park after Jon Roper's second half try had put Leigh to within two points.

Nolan says: "It's a pity a small minority of so-called supporters decided to spoil the entertainment of almost 10,000 fans. We are asking the genuine fans to name and shame those involved to help us stamp out the troublemakers. The police had cameras focused on the area and, hopefully, they can pin-point the culprits."

The Rugby League have called for a full report from match commissioner, Tony Brown, and a full investigation is likely to follow.

The latest incident comes just a few weeks after the Rugby League launched a probe into allegations of trouble at the end of the Challenge Cup tie against Whitehaven. Leigh were subsequently cleared of any blame.

Both incidents could compromise Leigh's hope of gaining promotion to Super League. Another big gate is expected on Sunday when Huddersfield, their main promotion rivals, are the visitors.
