MY recent 'water torture' feature about knitted cozzies brought back amusing honeymoon memories of 56 years ago for Lilian Henderson, of Beardsmore Drive, Lowton.

She says: "I knitted some very smart swimming trunks from a pattern, they were in navy blue with a belt.

My proud new husband was enjoying a dip in the sea at Colwyn Bay on our honeymoon in 1946 after he returned from three and a half years of Air Force Service in the Middle East.

When he came out of the water the trunks were almost reaching his knees and blue dye was running down his legs.

He came up the beach squeezing some of the water out as best he could, the trunks were waterlogged!

I rushed down the beach with a towel. It covered his legs but his red face took some time to clear. His lovely hand-knitted trunks ended up in the hotel dustbin, a sad ending in a no throwaway era.

It was 56 years ago but it is still a vivid memory."

A delightful little tale of good intentions ending in embarrassment. You do your best and look what happens. Any more hilarious tales of hand knitted disasters?
