Non-League round-up by John Bullen
Farsley Celtic 1 Radcliffe Boro 3
BORO opened up a four point cushion over Unibond League Division One promotion rivals with a comfortable win at relegation threatened Celtic. Quick thinking and even swifter movement by Jody Banim on 21 minutes created the first goal. The home keeper appeared to have time but the Boro striker was on him in a flash to charge down the attempted clearance and convert from a narrow angle. On 54 minutes Lee Potter squared the ball for Banim to control and fire in his second. Farsley got a goal back on 57 minutes but Boro wrapped it up two minutes from time when Potter beat his marker and slotted home for his second goal in two games since signing for Boro last week. Midfielder Simon Kelly was named man of the match.
Colls on the brink
Atherton Colls 1
Kidsgrove Ath 0 (agg - 4-2)
COLLS are on the threshold of their first ever major silverware in the North West Counties League after a Worthington Challenge Trophy two leg triumph over one of the best sides in Division One. The clincher was the 3-2 victory in the away leg but there was still plenty to do in the return game at Alder House. Predictably the visitors came with siege tactics in mind but this floundered on a magnificent Colls defence superbly marshalled by man of the match Ian Callaghan. Having soaked up the pressure Colls made sure of a final meeting with Prescot Cables when substitute Stuart Shepherd scored the only goal of the game on 86 minutes.
Rams raided
Ramsbottom Utd 1
Curzon Ashton 2
THE Rams came unstuck at home to a hardworking Curzon side in a Division One defeat. Having gone a goal behind midway through the first half United hit back on 57 minutes when the impressive Carl Lomax held off the close attentions of his marker to bend the ball beyond the keeper and into the net. The relief was short-lived as ten minutes later the visitors got the winner they just about deserved. Central defender Darren Blore was the Ramsbottom man of the match.
LR make point
Woodley Sports 1
Atherton LR 1
THE home side dominated possession in the first half but created little. LR always looked dangerous on the break and took the lead on 16 minutes through Paul Coverley. The home side levelled from a 31st minute free kick. Despite having much the better of the second half Rovers had to settle for just one point with winger Mark Jones named man of the match.
Dismal Daisy
Bootle 4
Daisy Hill 0
DAISY manager Joe Paladino had a first class view of the problems in his team's defence as he played himself in goal. He was reportedly furious after a defeat which has seen his New Sirs team concede 12 goals in three games since he took over the managerial reins. Changes have been promised by the former Wigan Athletic and Runcorn keeper. His first signing is 18-year-old midfielder Mattie Innes from St Helens Town.
