THE traditional links between East Lancashire and the Benedictine liqueur will be marked by special presentations on Tuesday .
The producers of the drink, first introduced to the region by soldiers returning from Normandy after the First World War, have awarded Bene Gold Status 2002 to 15 retail outlets for their efforts in promoting the brand.
Lancashire is the largest selling region for Benedictine outside London and Jonathan Kirkham, of the company, said that while the original popularity was due to historical links, the continued success was due to the support of the outlets.
"This is our way of rewarding them and saying thank you," he said.
Among the outlets which will receive the award are Colne British Legion; Burnley Miners, KSC 110 Club, Burnley; Fulledge Conservative Club, Burnley; the White Lion, Clitheroe; Bridge Inn, Padiham; Queens Park Working Men's Club, Blackburn; Cross Axes, Great Harwood; Mill Hill Working Men's Club, Blackburn; and the hare and Hounds, Oswaldtwistle.
