I FULLY support people's outrage at the closure of old folks homes by Lancashire County Council.
However, one thing which really surprises me is the lack of anger at the £14.5 million estimate to renovate these homes. Just where do these people get their figures?
Tradesmen up their prices ridiculously when a council is involved because, after all, its 'only' taxpayers' money.
In one report there was a quote of £75,000 just to repair windows in one home. £125,000 was the quote for decorating another and putting in an alarm.
While I have nothing but contempt for the county council for taking the closure decision, the quote for renovation made it inevitable.
