A RURAL community campaign group and a church are joining forces to improve life in the village of Weir.
Weir Lodges and Woodlands Trust was established to campaign about a planning application for the former mill site Irwell Springs to ensure the preservation of an area with lodges, woodland and wildlife.
Weir Baptist Church was set up last summer in the Weir Hotel, but from Sunday its base will be Northern School hall. The Rev Neil Hepworth said: "We need more space now our congregation is 30 to 40 strong."
He thanked licensees Barbara and John Walmsley for their hospitality and the Weir Hotel will be the venue for the first meeting to discuss setting up a community forum.
Items for discussion include an annual village fun day and a campaign for extra buses.
The meeting will be on April 16 at 7.30pm. There is no religious agenda. It is purely to help develop the community.
