LEIGH RMI are looking for a new assistant manager after number two Dave Miller left the club to become manager of Stalybridge Celtic writes Martyn Hindley
The highly-rated coach, who had been with the Railwaymen for almost two years, announced his departure yesterday morning after the Tameside club parted company with managerial duo Paul Futcher and Paul Lodge.
He was also believed to be interested in the previously vacant position at Unibond First Division Chorley and was on the shortlist of three to be Stalybridge manager at the start of the season.
Miller said: "I had plenty of good times at RMI but as I explained to the chairman, I felt that it was time to move on.
"I was assistant to Jim Harvey at Morecambe and now here to Steve Waywell but now I feel the need to test myself. I have ambitions as a manager and I need to see if I can become successful.
"I feel that I can do that at Stalybridge."
Waywell emphasised the need to look forward for the club: "The future is very bright at Leigh so I'm sure that Dave's reasons were more about ambition than being worried about our financial security. Hopefully, he has learnt a lot from me and from other managers he has worked under and I hope that he can keep Stalybridge in the Conference."
Miller took the first positive steps towards survival last night as his side edged out Forest Green 2-1.
