BURNLEY MP Peter Pike was today meeting Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf as part of a Parliamentary delegation to his country.
The Labour backbencher flew out to Pakistan last Thursday and returns home on Good Friday.
The trip involves extensive travelling in the country including a visit the Azad Kashmir -- the Pakistani part of the bitterly disputed territory and flashpoint with India -- and meeting most of the Islamabad Government's senior Ministers and officials.
Mr Pike, fellow Labour MPs Tony Colman, Mohammad Sarwar and David Chaytor along with Lord Bhatia visited refugee camps near Peshawar on the Afghan border on Sunday, while on Monday they discussed Kashmir with central government ministers before dinner with the British High Commissioner in Islamabad.
They also visited the Punjab yesterday, but the highlight of the trip, organised by the Paksistan High Commission in London, was the meeting with President Musharraf today.
He has become a key Muslim ally of Britain and the United States in the war against international terrorism and in successful military action against al-Qaida terrorists and the Taliban in Afghanistan.
The delegation also visited Karachi, Lahore and the Sindh province.
Mr Pike was delighted to be seeing so much of Pakistan as he has many constituents from all over the country and in particular Kashmir.
