A BURNLEY teenager is among three young cricket fans re-arrested and re-charged after trouble broke out during a one-day international between Australia and Pakistan at Lords.

Yasin Shafi, 18, of Oxford Road, Burnley, has been re-charged with affray and using or threatening violence towards another following the match in London on June 23.

The case against Shafi and co-defendants Samiullah Khan, 19, and Haroon Qureshi, 19, collapsed at London's Horseferry Magistrates Court last month when the Crown Prosecution Service failed to secure evidence from a TV cameraman covering the game.

District Judge Roger Davies said he was tired of waiting for the statement from the Sky Sports employee and dismissed the case, which was originally against Shafi and the other men.

All three were re-arrested have been re-charged with affray and using or threatening violence after Aussie cricketer and former Rawtenstall professional Mike Bevan was hit by a missile during a disturbance at the home of English cricket.

Bevan, who was a batting sensation during his time at the Bacup Road ground, suffered slight bruising and swelling to the face.

Bevan, Lords stewards and a fan were allegedly attacked by a mob of youths who invaded the pitch during the Test match.

Khan, a student of Portland Road, Norwood, London, and Qureshi, a bank worker of Victoria Avenue, East Ham, London, were sent for trial at the Middlesex Guildhall Crown Court and ordered to appear there for a preliminary hearing on April 26. Both are on unconditional bail.

Shafi, 17 at the time of the alleged incident, did not attend the hearing but his bail was renewed in his absence until April 5 when he is due to reappear at the magistrates court.

During February's hearing Mr Davies stormed: "This has been dragging on since June.

"The police and the Crown should have had their cases in order by today. It is high time that police and the prosecution service learned to get their papers together and on time."

The prosecution was forced to drop the charges at the time but warned that the accused could be re-arrested and charged if and when the case papers were completed.
