IT is alarming that in the last period violent crime in Lancashire has risen by a staggering 31 per cent.
At the same time, there have been 600,000 violent street robberies. Also, according to statistics from the Home Office, prisoners freed early under the Government's tagging scheme have committed more than 1,400 new crimes, including rapes and kidnappings.
Since tagging began, three convicted killers, 228 jailed for wounding, 366 burglars, 138 muggers and eight arsonists have committed crimes while tagged.
As Norman Brennan, a Metropolitan Police Constable and director of the Victims of Crime Trust, says "This system is crazy. We are letting convicted criminals out to cause mayhem."
The Home Secretary may talk tough on crime but in reality his actions are weak. No wonder crime in this country is soaring.
