A LEATHER sofa was not all it appeared to be when trading standards officers were called to an Atherton warehouse.
The fake outer cover hid old packing case material and highly flammable dangerous foam filling.
Now trading standards officers are warning people to be on the look out for door-to-door salesman trying to sell dangerous furniture.
Chief Trading Standards Officer Alan Blundell said: "Any upholstered furniture that does not comply with safety regulations is a potential killer. All new suites must comply with safety standards and be labelled as such. Look for these before you buy."
The sofa is thought to have been imported from the Philippines and bound for Ireland via Bradford, but somehow turned-up in Atherton.
