HE may have been the smallest player on the pitch but Ryan Curwen was a big thorn in the side of Borrowdale United.
The little striker nicked two second half goals as Brierfield marched in to the final despite being put under the cosh by United.
Curwen's first came after good work from Scott Matthews and Rudi Lockett who set up the striker to smash the ball home.
And as United pushed forward looking for a late equaliser, the hard working Liam Dunleavy played in the perfect ball for Curwen to cooly slot the ball past Daniel Oates.
United were stunned as they dominated for large periods but came up against a resilient Brierfield defence and confident keeper in Andrew Hudson.
Despite United's possession, they didn't create too many clear cut chances.
Aaron Atkinson fired just wide before Ross Uttley sent in a great cross that Atkinson failed to take advantage of.
Atkinson then missed the target after latching on to a pass from Chris Walker before Uttley tested Hudson with a long range effort.
Brierfield were pinned back for most of the first half but showed they were dangerous on the break.
Lockett just failed to connect with fine cross from Scott Matthews before United keeper Oates had to be quick off his line to deny Curwen.
After the break, United continued to dominate and Hudson was forced in to an early save to deny Walker.
Then Matt Bradshaw forced the keeper in to another good save. And when Hudson spilled the ball while under pressure, Dunleavy was on hand to clear the danger. Brierfield made a rare venture up field and from a United goal kick they took the lead against the run of play. Matthews picked the ball up in midfield and lifted it into the area where Lockett flicked the ball on to Curwen who fired high past Oates.
United pushed three up front in an attempt to level the tie but they were almost hit on the break when Lockett raced clear from the halfway line but fired high and wide.
United had a great chance to equaliser but substitute Brad Hirst screwed his shot wide.
Lockett then had another great chance to extend Brierfield's lead but again fired wide when he had raced clear. But the second was not long in coming and Dunleavy's cross found Curwen at the back post who side-footed the ball home.
