AFTER reading about all the political goings on by our so called elected representatives I think it is time to bring in the authorities, these so called representatives are only out for one thing and that is to look after No 1 and their cronies.

The Halton planning issue is only one of many, when the Halton Mill site was passed out of the blue, tenants of the site were not even mentioned, in fact the owners submitted plans showing the site to be empty, when in fact it had approx 40 people employed there.

When I complained to the council offices they said they would hold an enquiry but it would not matter as it was already passed.

The puppet press gave us front page but covered up the facts about the naughty application, the original plan was for industrial use mainly not posh houses.

This is only one of many scandals from our local elected members, I have knowledge of more.

Keep up the attack we might get an accountable council yet.

The strange thing is that very often it's not as dramatic as your (edited) letter suggests - witless and spineless members are no match for those officers who possess a good working knowledge of the bureaucratic quagmire that is local government.

So no matter how poor a performance by an officer and no matter how incompetent some may have been they can carry on regardless because of the woodentops who are there to keep an eye on things.

Unless, that is, there's the political will to so something about it...

then things happen.

Trumped up charges of bullying and you're out on your ear.

Lead a council properly and you might be run off (with 100k in your back pocket admittedly).

Lose more than £2m over Blobby - run up a £1.4m overspend on Salt Ayre or lose a contract with Civic Illuminations and it' s good for your image.

You become highly regarded as experienced and talented officers.

Who says so? They do, that' s who.

Oh and one or two fawning members and journalists who suffer from myopic political visi

on.

The encouraging thing is that, as recent events have shown, a vigilant public and a 'free' press can ensure that the authorities are actually held to account.

Sadly it is the only hope we've got in the face of a truly toothless opposition.

Does it really matter I've heard some say? Ask me that again when the clowns send you your new Council Tax bill - Ed
