IN THE past few weeks, I have read in the Citizen about the people of Carnforth moaning about the fares they have to pay on the public transport.

Quite right too, but they are not the only ones being ripped off.

So here we go.

Did you know that the fare that a pensioner pays is really the fare that the ordinary passenger should pay, with the pensioners paying half that.

The way I see it the bus company thinks up a fare, says, we will try that and if no one complains, we will stick to it.

Right, now who do you complain to, they it and you get pushed from one person to another, you get nowhere, no direct answer, so you give up the ghost.

They get away with it again.

I do not know if you have noticed or not but since the fares keep going up, which they seem to do after every holiday season, that there are more cars on the roads and less people on the busses.

If it was done like it is in West Yorkshire pensioners, from the times of 9.30am to 3m, pay 20 pence to anywhere in West Yorkshire.

If that was done in Lancashire, with the ordinary passenger fares, brought down to a better level, the public transport would then flourish instead of going down the pan.

There would be more passengers on the buses, because people would be able to afford it.

Pensioners would be able to go out more, filling the seats of the buses, making the public transport worthy.

I know that nothing will be done about what I have written because I don't think the people of Lancashire know they are being over-charged.

To the operators of Stagecoach would you mind telling me, through this newspaper, if I am wrong?
