PLANS to use the area around Carnforth's war memorial for the town's weekly market have been kicked out by councillors.
The Carnforth and district chamber of trade, had applied to use land off Market Street, including the L-shaped parking area around the edge of the memorial, along with a small piece of land in front of Ash Trees Surgery, to site around six market stalls every Wednesday.
Some traders have been using the land since the market moved from the Queens Hotel's car park.
Planning officers concerned that using the area resulted in the loss of seven off-street parking spaces, including two for disabled drivers, and an emergency doctor parking space.
They also argued that plans to start setting up from 5am, would have an adverse impact on nearby residents.
Members of Lancaster council's planning committee rejected the plan on Monday.
The chamber now wants to work with city council officers to look what difficulties could be resolved.
