Rossendale 30 Tyldesley 11: IF rugby games lasted 60 minutes Tyldesley RU would have picked up two wins in a row instead of two defeats.

For the second successive week Tyldesley took the game to opponents Rossendale and thanks to a Ryan Grainey try and two Eddie Wallbank penalties, Tyldesley led into the second half 11-8.

However with injuries taking their toll on a depleted Tyldesley side the home team scrambled a win with three tries in 20 minutes.

Tyldesley Knights faced neighbours Leigh at St George's Park and in a fast first half Tyldesley blew the visitors away with seven tries. First on the score sheet was centre Shaun Pulman whose powerful running split the Leigh defence after good work from the Tyldesley pack.

Prop forward Eddie Friar ran strongly all day and he was rewarded with a try to right of the posts and that was soon followed by another score from David Goulbourne. A lovely piece of flowing rugby resulted in Danny Woodward crossing the whitewash and left winger David Channell was on the end of a six man passing movement to score in the corner.

Added another

With a couple of minutes left before the interval Pulman added another try before full back Craig Broadhurst

scored under the posts allowing Ashley Worsfold to add his third conversion of the half.

In the second-half Tyldesley eased off the gas and a more spirited Leigh were rewarded with two unconverted tries.

However Tyldesley had the last say with another try for Channell after good work from Andy Collier. With the game won Worsfold completed the try feast and landed both conversion for a 55-10 win.

Top performers were winger Liam Mountford and backrowers Richard Callow, Danny Woodward and Jim Hutton.

Tyldesley Dragons good run came to an abrupt end when Leigh thirds ran up an early 29-0 lead. However a hat-trick from Paul Burke and a try from John Fetherston nearly produced an unlikely result as Tyldesley finally went down 29-24.

On Sunday Tyldesley Colts faced West Park-St Helens Colts in the quarter finals of the Lancashire Trophy and found the visitors on top form. The Tyldesley lads tried in vain to combat the strong running of the West Park side but found no answers as the visitors ran out worthy winners.
