BLUE flashing lights will get motorists into hot water.

Police are having a clampdown -- beginning tomorrow (Friday) -- on motorists who fit flashing coloured lights to their vehicles.

PC Dave Bunce, a section officer based at Leigh, warns that having a vehicle fitted with such illumination contravenes the vehicle construction and use regulations and offenders will be prosecuted.

PC Bunce said: "They have been used in serious crimes with people impersonating emergency vehicles and officers will enforce regulations. If you have these lights fitted to your vehicles you are advised to remove them to avoid being fined."
