PLANS for a massive 25-bedroom extension to a nursing home in the Pennington conservation area have been vetoed by Wigan's planning chiefs.
Owners of Pennington View, a 12-bedroom nursing home on St Helens Road had planned to extend on a grand scale by adding 25 extra bedrooms, a lounge, conservatory, reception, staffroom and staff accommodation.
But planning chiefs rejected the proposals after officers reported the sheer scale of the rear extension on the large detached Victorian property would have a detrimental impact on the neighbourhood.
Nearby residents wrote half a dozen letters to the council complaining the extension was too large and out of proportion with the area and feared the extension would affect the character of the conservation area.
