A RETIRED chartered accountant died from sceptic complications after hip surgery.
An inquest in Blackburn heard that Peter Noel Ashworth, 91, of Kemp Court, Whalley New Road, Blackburn, had first undergone hip replacement surgery in 1966.
That had not been successful and he sought a second opinion from Sir Osmond Clarke in London.
Mr Ashworth was referred to Wrightington Hospital where both hips were replaced again but with a year between each procedure.
Mr Ashworth had no further problems until 1997 when surgical revisions were carried out on the right hip, first at Wrightington and then at Alexander Hospital in Cheadle.
Mr Ashworth suffered problems with infection periodically following the revision operation and in November of last year was discharged from hospital to Queens Lodge Nursing Home, where he eventually died. The medical cause of death was given as chronic sceptic and metabolic complications secondary to surgical revision.
Coroner Michael Singleton recorded a verdict of misadventure.
