THE excellent spring like weather of the past few days have improved conditions, but touches of overnight frost have affected catches locally.
On Sunday, the fifth round of the Pilsworth Fisheries Winter League took place on all waters with 60 anglers participating.
Shaun Mulhur fishing the bottom ponds, won the match with eighteen carp to take top weight 56-6-0. In second place J. Bradshaw (Sensas Garbolino) 20-10-0 and third P. Cox (Aquabait Gold.) 18-13-0.
Keenets NW were top team on the day with 46 pts, and now head the league with 253.5pts. In second place Tri Cast Highfield Gold 238 pts, and third local team Fishermans Way 230 pts.
In the Bradshaw Fisheries Wednesday Open, weights improved considerably. Bill Brierley (Fishermans Way) taking top weight 57-4-0, in second place S. Hall (Team HB) 33-0-0, and third D. Bailey (Ted Carter Preston) 25-12-0.
Local anglers featured in the sixth round of the Teams of Three fished on Woodland Lakes, Yorkshire, by sixty six anglers. Mark Longhurst (Elton Tackle) had top weight from Skylark Lake peg 22, to take mirror carp to 5lb for 54-10-0. In second place Darren Taylor (Drop Outs) fishing Mallard Lake peg 10, included a 8lb mirror carp in his 52-2-0. In third place K. Fryatt (Elton Tackle) 45-12-0.
In the Hebden Bridge Teams of Four final match held on the Rochdale Canal, skimmers and roach formed the leading weights. 1st, D. Pilgrim (Ryburn) 3-15-0 and a tie for second place between D. Greenwood (Todmorden) and D. Barnforth (Todmorden) 3-12-0.
On the local pleasure fishing scene over the past weekend, Parkers has been fishing well for skimmers and quality bream. Sport has slowed slightly on the Island Lodge and Cartwheel.

The clubs next match takes place on Saturday, April 6 on Devilshole Lodge, draw 8am, fishing 8.30am to 12.30pm.

The next club match, The Damian Wrall Memorial Trophy takes place on Parkers on Sunday, March 31, draw 9am, fishing 10am to 3pm. The club had a successful working party on Parkers on Saturday, to lay hard-core inside the gates and clear the stream of wood obstructions.
The clubs next working party takes place on Cromptons Lodge at Elton on Saturday, April 13 at 9am. The job in hand to clear bankside brambles around the pegs, and clear weed at the overflow end, and produce fish shelters from bankside willows.

The April monthly meeting of the club takes place at the Waterloo Hotel, Manchester Road, on Monday, April 8 at 8pm.
