BURNLEY boss Stan Ternent may have had a quiet week ahead of transfer deadline but his opposite number at Wolves has been busy.

Dave Jones has spent £1million on Wimbledon midfielder Kevin Cooper as well as bringing in two defenders on loan, Leicester City's Jacob Laursen and Bradford City's Gunnar Halle.

Wolves already had one of the strongest squads in the first division but Jones was eager to strengthen his options after a run of four games without a win.

"We know it is not a level playing field in this division when it comes down to finances," Ternent admitted.

"But that is not to say the chairman and the board hasn't backed me because they have. I strengthened my side a couple of weeks ago with David Johnson and Paul Gascoigne."

Ternent may envy the resources Jones has at his disposal but he certainly has no ill feeling towards the management team at Molineux.

"I get on exceptionally well with Dave Jones and John Ward (his assistant) and they are very successful football people," he said. "I just hope they have a hiccup here for an hour and half on Saturday afternoon."

Having been used to managing clubs with limited budgets, Ternent is acutely aware that the current crisis facing football in respect of television money could have a massive bearing on his club.

"The TV money will be of concern because £3million, or however much it is, is built into the club's budget," he said.

Ternent had been hoping to do one bit of business next Tuesday, tying up a loan extension for Middlesbrough keeper Marlon Beresford. Tomorrow's match would have been his 14th since returning to the Clarets but he has been recalled to the Riverside as they have a couple of injury problems in the goalkeeping department.
