WALSHAW SC RES...3
RIVINGTON RES...0
THE first team were out of action last week so it gave the management team of Gary North and Malc Quilty the chance to travel to Rivington and look at the young reserve side.
Their were fireworks almost from the kick off when Walshaw defender Johnson squared up to a Rivington striker and deteriorated when one of the visitors' midfielders took it on himself to spit at Dydyna but despite passionate calls for justice from the Walshaw bench no action was taken against the miscreant.
Football was inconsistent from both sides with passes going astray and efforts on goal few and far between.
However, Walshaw did manage to break the deadlock after 16 minutes when some neat one touch football between Manifold and Gilmore resulted in Uddin heading home.
The goal seemed to give the visitors the upper hand and but for some poor finishing and excellent saves from keeper Kenyon the home side could have been 5-1 down at half time.
Some harsh words from the Walshaw management team heralded an improved display in the second half.
Their second goal came from an incisive pass from M. Dydyna who sent Uddin through to convert in a style reminiscent of Dennis Bergkamp!
Hardworking first team striker Gilmore must have fired shots on goal from every conceivable angle to no avail.
It was to be Uddin's day and he grabbed his, and Walshaw's, third after 84 minutes crashing the ball home from seven yards the wrap up the game and earn this side a much needed three points.
