THE eve of the new golf season sees one local club opening its doors as wide as possible to prospective new members.
Officials of the 18-hole Walmersley Golf Club have been concerned that would-be participants are deterred from taking up the game because they simply don't know enough about golf or how to apply for membership.
Accordingly, they have organised an open evening at the club on Friday, April 26 from 6.30pm onwards when anyone interested in golf, whether a complete novice or not, is invited to take a look round the course and clubhouse and have all their golfing questions answered.
Ladies and juniors (both boys and girls) are especially welcome and as there are a handful of memberships available for men, they, too, are encouraged to go along.
Said a club official: "Walmersley is a friendly, family-orientated club catering for social golfers as well as competitive ones. Our open evening will be very much an informal and informative occasion and nobody will be put under pressure to become a member."
Walmersley already has attractive clubhouse facilities, a well-stocked golf shop, a practice area and a teaching professional while preparatory work on three new holes is well under way.
With a variety of full and midweek memberships available, including a unique three month trial period, there isn't a better time to find out about the game with information freely available at the open evening or by telephoning Walmersley Golf Club on 0161 764 7770.
