ABOUT 950 people aged from four to 80 were at the concert, which the Bradford-based band kicked off with I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight.
They are probably Britain's biggest export because after the first session they screened a montage of their concerts in Mongolia, China, South Africa and Australia when there were no less than 100,000 people at each massive stadium. Their latest albums, Uncovered and Uncovered Too, have gone platinum in 13 countries. They have had five number one hits in Nashville.
The second set lasted 90 minutes with 21 songs and included all their hits. They received a standing ovation for Wild, Wild Angels and finished with Oh Carol, Have You Seen The Rain and Living Next Door To Alice.
I have watched them for years and they were absolutely wonderful, the audience was glowing with admiration. The sound was so tight, the band was brilliant. A seven-year-old girl I spoke to, called Rachel, said she had asked her mum to buy her all Smokie's CDs -- they have released 21 in the last five years, so it's going to cost mum a lot of money.
I would like to thank the Evening Telegraph for such a wonderful evening -- I would have gone anyway but winning the tickets was a bonus.
