KIND-HEARTED staff at a Burnley supermarket were celebrating today after scooping a national award.
The team at Asda in Princess Way was recognised for their efforts in trying to keep customers and colleagues safe and healthy.
The Health and Safety Executive award was presented to the store for its efforts to promote European Week for Safety and Health last October.
Among the store's week of activities was a visit from the fire brigade to talk about the importance of smoke alarms and a fire warden's course for staff, as well as a bread-making and hygiene lesson for pupils of the town's Wellfield School. Throughout the week the store also set up an area for customers to dispose of old and unwanted medicines.
Representatives of Asda travelled to the Royal Museum in Edinburgh, where they were presented with the award by Australian comedian, TV personality and chat-show host Clive Anderson.
Store manager Graham Price said: "Health and safety is our highest priority and we are very proud of our record and reputation, which reflects both excellent hazard awareness and the preventative work carried out by all colleagues in making this a safe place to work."
European Week for Safety and Health was observed by a number of companies and organisations throughout the country with various activities. It is an annual event organised by the European Agency for Safety and Health in Bilbao, Spain.
