POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an assault on a young girl .
The incident happened on Athol Street, Nelson, when a 14-year-old schoolgirl was assaulted by three other girls.
The teenager was punched, kicked and had her hair pulled before the attackers made off. The teenager had a split lip and a bump on her head.
Police have issued a description of the three girls.
They were all aged between 15 and 16 and between 5ft 7 and 5ft 8. The first girl is described as having long blond hair without a fringe, wearing jeans and a sports jacket. The second girl had long brown hair with a fringe and the third female was slim wearing an Adidas cap.
