NEIL Anthony Galloway 'lost it' after being thrown out of a Blackburn town centre pub.

Blackburn magistrates heard that he smashed a window and as he wrestled with police head butted an innocent bystander on the nose.

The court heard that young woman's nose burst on impact spraying herself and others with blood.

Galloway, 22, of Clayton Street, Great Harwood, pleaded guilty to assaulting Caroline McCusker and damaging a window at the Grapes public house on Northgate.

He was ordered to pay £400 to Miss McCusker and £378 to the landlord of the Grapes, Sean Duckworth.

Phillip Potter, prosecuting, said Miss McCusker was queuing outside the Grapes with a friend when she saw Galloway being escorted from the premises.

"Without warning he lashed out with his head and the back of his head connected with the bridge of Miss McCusker's nose," said Mr Potter.

"She immediately felt blood running down her face and was very distressed."

In her statement to the police Miss McCusker said: " I couldn't believe this man had done this to me. I had never seen or spoken to him before in my life."

Joanne Lovick, defending, said Galloway had been out on a late works Christmas party and had drunk far more than he was used to. He and a friend had come to blows inside the pub and he felt aggrieved that he was the only one thrown out.

"Outside he lost it and he accepts that as he was bouncing around his head made contact with this girl's nose," said Miss Lovick.

"It was not a deliberate attack on the young lady although he does accept that in temper he punched the window. He also fully accepts that he will have to pay compensation."
