BURNLEY'S players are travelling south this evening for phase two of their holiday programme, Monday afternoon's clash with Portsmouth at Fratton Park.
Clarets boss Stan Ternent is hoping they can clinch an 11th away win of the season and make it a miserable first game in charge for new Pompey boss Harry Redknapp.
Ironically the Burnley coach may be in convoy with Redknapp's side as they will also be hitting the M6 and hoping to avoid holiday hold-ups having played Preston North End at Deepdale this afternoon.
That match was the former West Ham manager's first test since he took over the reins of the struggling side from Graham Rix earlier this week.
"Harry Redknapp has taken over and it is sometimes the case that a new broom sweeps clean," warned Ternent as he anticipated a tough test on the south coast.
"We are travelling straight down after the game against Wolves and will rest up on Sunday before a light training session on the Monday before the game."
Ternent will assess the fitness of his players after today's trip but he has already admitted that he will be looking to keep his men fresh by making changes to cope with a second game in just three days.
While there was no excitement ahead of transfer deadline day at Turf Moor, Redknapp was unsurprisingly busy a she looked to make changes to his newly inherited squad.
The club's director of football did sanction the £5million sale of Peter Crouch to Aston Villa, less than a year after Rix had beaten Ternent to the signature of the 6ft7ins striker.
Both clubs wanted to sign Crouch from Queens Park Rangers last summer but it was Pompey who forked out £1.5million for the player who scored goals from the start, including the equaliser when the two sides met at Turf Moor in November.
But Redknapp has been quick to strengthen his squad with the addition of defenders Eddie Howe from Bournemouth and Scott Wilson from Rangers and the versatile Mark Summerbell.
"Mark Summerbell is here on loan from Middlesbrough and he will be available on a free in the summer," said Redknapp.
"I spoke to Bryan Robson who is a big fan of his, who is convinced he will do well for us."
Ternent himself has been linked with a move for Howe who always impressed alongside Ian Cox before his partner moved to Burnley.
"I have always been a big fan of Eddie and always felt he could play at a higher level, he said. "The only problem I had was signing him from Bournemouth when they were in the middle of a relegation battle.
"But they are in desperate financial trouble and although they would miss him it was more important that the club survived financially. I know Alan Curbishley at Charlton had been looking at him carefully so rather than miss the chance of getting him we moved in today.
"Scott Wilson has played nearly 50 games for Rangers first team and you don't get to play for them unless you are a good player. He is on a Bosman in the summer, has been offered a new contract by Rangers but has turned it down. I thought it would be a good chance to take him in on loan and have a good look at him first."
Croatian star Robert Prosinecki is likely to have been rested today after international duty, leaving him fresh to face the Clarets on Monday.
