PUPILS from across the Fylde Coast enjoyed a hands-on day of science at BAE Systems to celebrate National Science Week recently.
More than 100 pupils from six primary and senior schools, including Lytham St Annes High Technology College, Lytham and Rossall Preparatory School, Fleetwood, visited the Warton site to take part in a range of scientific activities run by 30 BAE Systems engineers.
Activities included designing drag-racing cars, making model boats and flying model aircraft. There was also a display of BAE Systems school curriculum material.
Joe Roberts, BAE Systems education manager, said: "It was a fantastic success. We always promote science week in some form or other but it is the first time we have brought the schools and engineers together."
BAE Systems was an official supporter of science week, and the event was part of the company's "ambassadors" initiative through which engineers are visiting schools to promote science, he said.
