YOUNG Blackpool swimmers had a splashing time at Blackpool Primary Schools Swimming Association gala recently.
Pupils from 11 major primary schools across the borough took part in the two-hour gala at Moor Park swimming pool, Bispham, on March 19.
Norbreck School won the Blackpool Primary Schools Swimming Association major schools championship trophy with 52 points.
The school also won the senior girls' relay and was runner-up in the senior boys' relay. Swimmers were presented with their trophies by Blackpool Mayor Councillor Sue Wright, who was also celebrating her birthday.
Moor Park took second place with 49 points and Marton came third with 29 points. Haweside and Stanley primary schools were also runners up.
Susan Stanley, PE co-ordinator at Norbreck School, praised the 20-strong team and added: "We took them straight into assembly afterwards and stood them all on stage and everybody just applauded and applauded. It was fantastic."
Lesley Meddings, gala swimming co-ordinator, said: "It was an excellent gala with some very close races. And three records which had stood since 1995 were broken. The children should be pleased with their high standard of swimming."
