METROLINK services between Manchester and Bury were severely disrupted after a tram struck an object on the line.
It is not known whether vandals could have been responsible for the incident which happened on a section of track between Bury and Whitefield on Wednesday morning (March 27).
The Manchester-bound tram struck the object and its emergency braking system was activated. However, the vehicle lost all its air and was unable to continue its journey.
Services between Bury and Manchester were suspended for 90 minutes.
But some trams travelled from Bury Interchange to Whitefield to pick up Bury-bound passengers before returning to the Interchange.
Investigations into the incident are continuing.
