A PENWORTHAM nurse is entering the 'Race for Life' despite being run off her feet with work and three children to look after.

Honor Jackson, 43, from Almond Close in Penwortham is looking for volunteers to join her in the Race for Life on Sunday May 26 at Preston Sports Arena, Cottam -- and sponsors to help her raise money for cancer patients.

Honor has been a nurse at Fulwood Hall Hospital on Midgery Lane, for the past 11 years and became involved with oncology (the study of tumours) patients three years ago -- when the unit was set up.

Honor said: "I administer chemotherapy to cancer patients and over the years the more I see cancer the more I want to do something to fight against it. Young people can be struck down in the prime of their life -- it can happen any time, anywhere to anybody."

The mother of three is currently in training -- in between work and helping her sons 17-year-old Carl, and Bobby, 15, with their studies.

"I run most days for about a mile, then come in and put the casserole on then I run a bit more and then I'll unload the dishwasher," said Honor.

The energetic nurse also has a 5-year-old daughter Amelia who has just started Whitefield County Primary school in Penwortham. Honor said that they run to school together and then Honor runs home again.

Honor trained in Manchester's Hope and Children's hospitals before working at Fulwood Hall --which has 36 beds for patients who require specialist care.

Gordon, her husband provides lots of support and last February he rode his bike in Egypt to raise money for cancer patients.

Honor said: "I am trying to persuade people to join me it's for a very worthy cause and if more people run or walk we can make a difference."
