A LOOK at the key stats and figures from the defeat against Wolves.

BURNLEY

NIK MICHOPOULOS: The Greek keeper came back for the first time in two months and had no chance with the goals...6

DEAN WEST: Moved into a back three after Moore's dismissal having had a tidy game at right back and making an amazing goal line clearance...7

ARTHUR GNOHERE: Back in the side he was ruffled by the pace and power of the Wolves attack but was steadier after the break...6

MITCHELL THOMAS: Found it tough going against Blake and Sturridge in the first half but was a threat at the other end...6

LEE BRISCOE: Put in the free-kick for Moore's goal but was guilty of giving the ball away a number of times...6

PAUL WELLER: Had a solid game both on the right side of midfield and then in a more central role...7

KEVIN BALL: Back in midfield he battled hard and stung the keeper's hands with one effort just after Moore scored...7

PAUL GASCOIGNE: More effective than at Sheffield United but still caught in possession too often in dangerous areas...6

ALAN MOORE: Became only the second Burnley player to see a red card this season for kicking out at the prone Gunnar Halle - but was there intent?...6

DAVID JOHNSON: Once again looked lively, especially alongside Ian Moore in the second half and thoroughly deserved his goal...7

GARETH TAYLOR: Was cruelly denied his 16th goal of the season by referee Barry Knight and was replaced by Ian Moore at half-time...6

TALKING TACTICS

AFTER the failure of three strikers last week, Stan Ternent reverted to 4-4-2 with Gareth Taylor and David Johnson as the front pairing.

When Alan Moore was dismissed he gambled on three at the back and his players rewarded him with a brave display.

SOCCER HERO

DAVID Johnson thoroughly deserved his late goal as he continues to look the business for Burnley. Three goals in four games and another very lively display.

THE VILLAIN

BARRY Knight somehow disallowed Gareth Taylor's header and his assistant promptly missed two offsides for Wolves goal - take your pick! Chuck in Alan Moore's dismissal and Mr Knight's afternoon was complete.

SKILL SPOT

IT may have been a rare moment but Gazza's mazy run and shot was a reminder of better days. He bamboozled the retreating defence but failed to find the finish.

09Dean Sturridge scores despite being offside twice in the move

12Paul Gascoigne gives the ball away and West heads off the line from Sturridge

26Shaun Newton crosses for Sturridge to fire home his second

85Moore and Johnson combine for the striker to fire home from the edge of the box

MATCH VERDICT

IT is always a shame when a thrilling game is spoiled by the ref but there was no way Mr Knight was not going to leave his mark. Burnley were slack before the break but if they can reproduce their second half show a top six spot should still be claimed.
