CLITHEROE were in seventh heaven after demolishing Abbey Hey to record their biggest NCWL Division One win of the season.
"I have been saying for some time that we would rattle up a score sooner or later and this was the day when the chances finally went in," said a delighted player-manager Lee Sculpher.
"We had not scored more than three in any game before Saturday so it was very pleasing.
"But it was rather a funny game for early on they had just as many chances as us if not more. Luckily we took ours and the second half was just one-way traffic towards their goal."
Mark Stewart got the ball rolling on four minutes converting the first of his two penalties after Neil Spencer had been fouled and three goals in the final quarter-hour of the first half from Chris Whittingham, Richard Fogarty and Andy Cowking put Clitheroe in the box seat.
A foul on the dangerous Martin Aspinwall enabled Stewart to ram home a second spot kick (57) before Whittingham (65) and Aspinwall (70) completed the rout.
Clitheroe saved the best until last with Aspinwall's goal the pick of the bunch after Richard Fogarty had dribbled beyond three challenges to set up a side foot scoring opportunity.
"Martin and Chris, our two wide players, caused havoc all afternoon and there were some really good goals among the seven," said Sculpher. "We suffered a disappointing defeat in mid-week and this was the perfect way to bounce back. I just hope we have saved some goals for the final few matches."
