OVER the last few weeks there has been lots of publicity about the proposed closure of St Paul's in Ramsbottom. Little has been heard from St Andrew's, which is also threatened with "closure" through possible amalgamation with St Paul's.

I have given this some thought. Is there a lack of interest from St Andrew's parents and teachers? I think not!

I have two children attending St Andrew's and can assure readers that we are interested and we certainly do care. I can only imagine that people are "shell-shocked".

Who would imagine that such a successful school would be under threat? Is this how they are going to repay the dedication and enthusiasm of parents, teachers, non-teaching staff and governors? Their tremendous efforts have resulted in a fantastic primary school which has received a glowing Ofsted report and does not have falling roles.

St Andrew's is not a site; it is not a building; it is the heart and soul of all those who have played a part in making St Andrew's what it is today.

I consider the standards at St Andrew's to be worth the ten-mile daily trip for my children.

I only hope my son, who is due to start school in September, is not denied the privilege of being a pupil at a school which should be held as a glowing example to others to aspire to, and not be closed just because of politics and funding!
