I AM writing to point out the obvious silliness of the principal plank in the election platform of the Labour candidate in Radcliffe North Ward.

This candidate tells readers that she wishes to be elected to join her husband (a Labour male) and the other male Labour Councillor in the ward, in order to increase the representation of women in local politics. ("Women are presently under -- represented... if elected I hope to redress the balance").

This is, of course, very misleading since she fails to point out that the very person she is attempting to unseat is female, an energetic, outspoken, committed, experienced Conservative councillor, who speaks up regularly and tirelessly on all issues, not just so-called "women's issues".

That lady is Denise Bigg and I know from serving alongside her for many years she expresses views on housing, education, social services and other issues which are of interest to men, women and children.

Instead of political correctness she tries to secure improvements in vital council services and, let's face it, just securing repairs to potholes, kerbs and pavements instead of imposing unpopular, little used cycle lanes would be a start from this failed Labour council.

The Labour candidate would not increase the number of women representatives at all. She would only double the representation of the Biggs household. Whereas the people of the whole Borough would lose a free spirit and a fearless fighter.

The Labour party would love Denise to lose, because she is a thorn in their side who regularly exposes their constant failings in housing and social services.

I appeal to the residents of Radcliffe North, on behalf of the rest of the Borough, to support their dedicated councillor.
