A LOOK at the key stats and figures from the game against Portsmouth.

BURNLEY

NIK MICHOPOULOS: Made an error for the equaliser and had a couple of other nervy moments on his second game back...6

DEAN WEST: Made three key challenges to keep Pompey at bay, one header absolutely vital, and was consistent as ever...7

MITCHELL THOMAS: Was excellent at the back, commanding in the air and on the deck throughout...8

ARTHUR GNOHERE: Was tested early on by the movement of Todorov and Harper but settled to his task...7

LEE BRISCOE: Battled well at left-back and put in a peach of a cross near the end that Johnson should have converted...7

PAUL WELLER: Appeared to be spat at by Prosinecki and was furious at the half time whistle. Had a tidy game before being replaced...7

KEVIN BALL: Enjoyed his return to his first club and made some typically strong challenges, one beauty denying Prosinecki...7

TONY GRANT: As neat as ever but he was caught out by a lack of fitness in the second half...6

ALAN MOORE: Some nice touches and clever moves but again lacked the end product at times...6

IAN MOORE: Again looked lively alongside Johnson but frequently found the ball bouncing beyond him...7

DAVID JOHNSON: Scored a beauty and should have netted the winner but was always a threat to the home side...8

TALKING TACTICS

STAN Ternent made two changes but kept the same formation. Paul Gascoigne was replaced by Tony Grant and the boss opted for the pace of Ian Moore and David Johnson in attack with Gareth Taylor on the bench

. In the second half Ternent went with five in midfield as Pompey flung on attackers but they ended up too deep.

SOCCER HERO

"SIGN him up" must be the chant from Burnley fans as David Johnson becomes elevated to cult status with four goals in five games. It was a shame he missed bagging the winner.

THE VILLAIN

ROBERT Prosinecki is a class act on the ball but there is no place for spitting in the game. If the reports are true it is no wonder Paul Weller was so angry at the break.

SKILL SPOT

THE skills of Prosinecki have graced the game all over the world and his shimmies, drag backs and step-overs were a joy to behold

TIME FOR ACTION

04A flowing move, started by Robert Prosinecki, is foiled by Kevin Ball's challenge on Svetoslav Todorov

14Gary O'Neil's long ball finds Kevin Harper but Nik Michopoulos is out quickly

20Lee Briscoe's quick free-kick finds David Johnson down the left, he cuts inside and curls the ball home

22Prosinecki's free kick hit the post and Todorov hit the rebound against Briscoe from three yards

32Great skill by Prosinecki released Jamie Vincent and Kevin Harper nodded wide from Todorov's header

34Alan Moore set Johnson through but he shot over after a 45-yard run

45Ian Moore's long ball put Johnson clear and he looked to be held on the edge of the box

46Todorov blasts wide after Michopoulos's weak clearance from Nigel Quashie

55The Bulgarian striker hits the target at last but it is an easy save

63Kevin Ball's control gifts the ball to Jamie Vincent but Michopoulos saves

65Prosinecki, twice, and Quashie are denied by brave blocks by the Burnley defence

75Quashie's chipped ball allows Todorov to nip in ahead of Michopoulos and score from a tight angle

80Briscoe's cross begs to be headed home but Johnson is just wide

89Paul Gascoigne, Johnson and Alan Moore combine but the Irish winger can't get a shot in

MATCH VERDICT

AN entertaining game that could have gone either way. In the end a point each might have been about right but it will do nothing to ease the fraying nerves at Turf Moor in the next few weeks.
