SERVICES and events at St John's Church include a programme of events on April 7 -- the second Sunday of Easter. Family Eucharist is at 11am, followed by the Sunday School school in church and Evensong at 6.15pm.
Ladies of the Mothers' Union group will provide Sunday Lunch after the Sunday service. It will be served from 12.45pm in the upstairs room and downstairs for those who are unable to negotiate the stairs. Cost £5 and the bar will be open.
Letters have now been delivered by Rob Mallett and we should soon see whether there is any interest in having a Friends of Worsthorne with Hurstwood Allotment Produce Competition.
Events at the village Reading Rooms include Friday morning Ladies Group and the next meeting will take place on April 12 from 10.30am to 12.30pm. There will be a talk about a holiday in China. On April 19 there will be a talk about white porcelain china. The Reading Rooms can be hired for £10 per session -- contact Pauline Frost on 435582.
The Parish Councillors are to attend a seminar on the model Code of Conduct and The Standards Board at Burnley Town Hall on April 4. Every Council must sign up to the new Code of Conduct called Standards in Public Life. It is expected that this seminar will make both Clerks and Councillors aware of the implications and new responsibilities.
A letter has been received from Burnley Borough Council stating that planning permission had been granted for Butchers Farm. The letter also detailed the conditions which had been attached to the planning permission. The Parish Council is to write to the Planning Department pointing out that a condition has been omitted from their letter -- the need to screen the building with trees.
The Parish Council has responded to the Government's Planning Green Paper, a consultation objecting to Parish Councils being omitted from consultation on planning applications in the future.
