KEVIN GLENDON wants Radcliffe Borough to make sure of promotion to the UniBond Premier Division well before the final match of the campaign, writes STEVE BOTT.
The way things are shaping up, Boro may have to battle it out with automatic promotion rivals Ossett Town in a dramatic, last gasp game on Friday May 3 at Stainton Park.
Town's defeat in the Easter Monday derby against lowly Ossett Albion gave Boro an extra boost following their own 1-0 win at Rossendale United.
Both look likely to pick up three points apiece tomorrow as Boro entertain Ashton United and Ossett take on Matlock.
But Glendon reckons his men are in for a tough test against their Tameside opponents.
"Ashton is always a tough one for us. It's like a derby and there's always a bit of an edge to the games between us.
"They've got a couple of former Boro players in their team and they will be going hard for another good result as they look to get into the promotion play-offs. They won't be doing us any favours."
Even so, Glendon will be hoping his men can bag the three points, for he says: "Hopefully, the promotion thing won't go to that last game against Ossett Town. It has been developing that way, but we have both got some tough games in the run-in.
"They have to play Harrogate, Leek and Ossett Albion again, so anything could happen."
Glendon will have a full squad to choose from, minus Ian 'The Legend' Lunt, who is set to make his third appearance for Kendal Town at North Ferriby tomorrow following his transfer deadline day move from the Boro last weekend.
Lunt played for his new club in the 1-1 draw at Lincoln last Saturday and came on as a substitute against Workington in another 1-1 draw on Monday.
Richard Battersby played at Rossendale on Monday following his substitution at half-time in last Saturday's 1-0 home defeat against Belper Town.
"I wasn't happy with a couple of things in Richard's game and I told him so. It was just one of those things. He played on Monday and played very well," said Glendon.
Mark Dempsey will be available for selection after missing the Rossendale game because of work commitments with Manchester United.
