THEY may have a new monicker but it's the same aim for sporting excellence that will take Bolton Road Sport Club on to a bright future.
The famous old Bury set-up who moved from their 80-year-old sports ground on the A58 to a superb brand new site two years ago, have changed their name to reflect their new geographical location.
From April 1 this week they are to be known as Elton Vale Sport Club, a decision that was supported all the way by their membership.
"It was a sad day when we were forced to quit our former club at Bolton Road," said president John Law.
"But we have established ourselves very well at our new home and with the bonus of a 99 year lease our future is secure."
One of the most famous names in Lancashire's amateur soccer scene, Elton Fold, who have been connected with Bolton Road for fifteen years, will also change their identity and from the 2002-2003 campaign will be known as Elton Vale FC.
"The Fold" were formed in 1957 and over the years have won almost everything there is to win on the local soccer scene.
Club president Ray Farrell, a founder member of Elton Fold admitted, "While it was a wrench to abandon our name we are proud to link up with Bolton Road and become one of the finest sports clubs in Lancashire.
"I am confident the club will go from strength to strength under the united banner."
General secretary Alan Fletcher added: "We have a first class facility at Elton Vale Road which is magnificently maintained by our enthusiastic band of volunteers.
"The cricket and football fields are a credit to the members while the tennis courts are in use throughout the year.
"We are gradually expanding our social activities and now invite local people to become associate members of the club."
In a bid to protect the historic link with the past both organisations have had their names incorporated in the new club name which is officially Elton Vale Sports Club (incorporating Bolton Road Sports Club and Elton Fold FC).
"We are receiving many applications for membership and we are particularly keen to welcome former Bolton Roaders and past footballers to Elton Vale."
As well as soccer and cricket there is a thriving tennis section at Elton Vale with table tennis and rounders also available.
