HOPPERS shocked Kendal by enjoying the better of the opening exchanges.

Paul Bailey's weaving run was ended inches short of the line before Chris Glynn's fourth minute penalty opened the scoring.

Kendal looked dangerous when they released the ball to their backs but it was flanker Wolstenholme who claimed the game's opening try.

South African centre Voortman was put clear by Scott's long pass for the second try and then another with a solo effort from halfway. Scott converted both and added a penalty before half time.

Kendal were immediately on the attack as the second half opened. An untidy scrum close to Hoppers line out allowed Bowman to claim a try which Scott again converted.

Lock Robinson was next on the scoresheet after Hoppers lost possession in their own 22. Scott converted. Hoppers man-of-the-match, Charlie Du Pre, was rewarded for his persistence with a try down the blind side.

Fifteen minutes remained but any hopes Hoppers had of a comeback were shattered as Dodds and Balmer notched late tries for the Cumbrians. Scott converted both.

Hoppers' final home league game on Saturday is against Harrogate.
