Clarets boss Stan Ternent is hoping to have an injury boost for the Gills clash - and that he can keep the rest of his walking wounded active until the end of the season.

Club skipper Steve Davis could be ready to make a welcome return after missing five matches.

Davis returned to the side a little over a month ago after a long lay-off but has not featured since the 2-0 win at Stockport County on March 3.

"The skipper has trained fully all week so hopefully he will come into contention for the game," said Ternent.

Already counted out is defender Ian Cox, who faces at least another week's treatment as he tries to overcome a thigh injury, and Ternent will also have to take stock over the fitness of £1million striker Robbie Blake, midfielder Paul Weller and winger Alan Moore.

"Robbie is still feeling his stomach muscle strain," explained Ternent.

"He keeps feeling a reaction to it but we are going to try and keep him playing to the end of the season.

"The same with Paul Weller whose knee injury means he is literally coming out of the medical room to play.

"He is one who will definitely need to undergo surgery during the summer.

"And Alan Moore is still trying to overcome a groin strain, but it's all bits and pieces that we have to deal with and we will just try and get through to the end of the season."

With injuries to both Nyron Nosworthy and Mark Patterson the Gills are struggling to find a recognised right-back for the Turf Moor clash.

Manager Andy Hessenthaler was set to recall Barry Ashby to partner Guy Butters at centre-back in a reshuffle that would see Chris Hope move to the right-back slot.

Gills leading scorer Marlon King missed training on Thursday, but it is unclear how serious his injury is and he was expected to travel with the squad this morning.

Should King fail to regain full fitness it would fall on the shoulders of Iffy Onuora and Guy Ipoua to unlock the Clarets door.

Paul Shaw will also be hoping for a chance but is likely to be on the bench with Ty Gooden, Marcus Browning, Kevin James and Danny Spiller.

If King passes a fitness test then Ipoua will probably revert to the bench at the expense of Spiller.
