Barrie, from Runcorn, making only his third visit to Leigh beat Jim Noon in the final 21-16. Results- semi-finals - Ellis 21-15 A.Lambert and Noon 21-19 R.Foster, Final - Ellis 21-16 Noon. Consolation semi-finals - J.Platt 21-17 B.Rigby and J. Prestwich 21-20 D.Thorpe, Final - Platt 21-19 Prestwich.
In Saturday's handicap Bill Griffiths just beat Colin Grimshaw in the final 21-19. Results - semi-finals Griffiths 21-5 Lambert and Grimshaw 21-19 Berry, final- Griffiths 21-19 Grimshaw.
