LEIGH Harriers have had outstanding results over the last couple of weeks.
Derek Howarth and John Taylor both won national veteran's titles.
In the National Vet's Championship at Glasgow's Kelvin Hall, Derek won the Over 70s 800m, second in the 1500m and second in the 400m. The previous week he also won the Northern Vet's Over 70s cross-country championship at Wakefield.
John, also competing at Kelvin Hall, won the national indoor Over 40s pole vault title. He is also the national outdoor champion and the world bronze medallist.
Leigh competed well in the Rivington Pike race on Saturday. Anne Powell was second in the senior ladies race with a time of 21.21 for the three-mile course with 1000ft of climb.
In the senior race Andy Arnold was 61st in 21.50, Peter Clegg 112th in 23.52 and Jim Prescott 155th in 26.23.
In the Under 16s junior race over two miles, Adele Swanton was second in a time of 14.20. Lizzy Heaton was sixth and Amanda Fearnley ninth. Emma Morris was fifth in the Under 14s.
In the first track race at Stretford, Alex Urmston ran a personal best in the Under 17s 800m, clocking 2.11.
