TOP of the league Horwich 1 visited Classic 1 and as with previous encounters with top ranked teams, no Classic man played badly.
Tod Bulmer was outplayed to lose 3-0. Mike Howard, losing 3-1 against the Lancs U17 champion, was once again relegated to the "nice shots, shame about the legs" epitaph. Graham Collier was outclassed by a young and skilful opponent, who had another gear every time Collier raised his game. Mark Taylor started brightly to take the first game; he too succumbed to the roadrunner syndrome, losing 3-1.
Classic's man of the match though was Howard Thornley, narrowly going down 3-2 to a much younger opponent.
Classic 2 managed a close 3-2 victory away to Cheetham Hill in a match that should have been an easy win for Classic.
Jim Capon, back after a long lay off, piled on the pressure to earn three early points. Vic Moses harvested three more points disposing of his opponent in three straight games. Lynda Gregory and Dave Haines both suffered from over confidence, both losing 3-0. It was up to Graham Draper to save the match and he did not disappoint. After losing the first game he fought hard to take a close second game. From then on, Draper was well suited to the task and won comfortably 3-1.
