BELIEVERS and non-believers alike flocked to Holcombe Hill to once again mark Good Friday in the traditional way.
The onset of foot-and-mouth forced the cancellation of the annual walk last year.
And although there is no religious service at the top of the hill (for the past few years, it has moved to the town centre) nothing could keep the young and old away this year.
Some even abided to the tradition of rolling eggs down the hill!
And in line with a modern tradition, hundreds of young people congregated at the Hare and Hounds pub.
Inspector Steve Clark, head of Ramsbottom Township Police, said: "There were around 1,500 to 2,000 people in the area during Good Friday and there were no serious incidents."
