BURY'S new state-of-the-art firefighting appliances have been officially presented to local crews.
The two £37,000 engines form part of a £260,000 replacement programme by Greater Manchester County Fire Service.
The engines have been used by Bury fire crews for the last few weeks but were formally handed over to Bury Fire Station on Thursday.
The Volvo engines are equipped with all the latest technological advances including electronic fully automatic gearbox, improved breaking system, central locking on all doors and lockers for added security.
The crew cabin is a one-piece unit with a range of in-built safety features which provide optimum protection for fire teams in any situation.
County Fire Officer designate, Mr Barry Dixon, said: "It is vital for the protection of both the public and firefighters alike that the Brigade invest in high quality training, equipment and fire engines.
"These appliances meet and clearly exceed current European environmental standards with regard to exhaust emissions.
"The public of Bury will now benefit from the new Volvo turbo diesel fire engines which are state-of-the-art and will undoubtedly deliver a high quality service."
