I WOULD like to say a special thank you to Councillor Maxine Callow for raising questions about those poor, poor, suffering creatures, the prisoners of Blackpool Zoo -- the elephants.
I say, thank God for a woman who is brave enough to be a voice for the voiceless in the midst of a stoney-hearted bevy of Blackpool councillors.
If we had compassionate, caring leaders of the same calibre as Maxine Callow and Pat Simpson we would not only see an end to animal suffering at Blackpool Zoo but also an end to the disgraceful and shameful abuse suffered by all the poor elderly people presently under threat of losing their present homes.
Strange as it may seem, compassion is all embracing. And those who have no compassion in their hearts for suffering animals have no compassion either for suffering human beings.
